Expressions of Love in the Time of Covid
including Playback LoveGrams*

Saturday, January 30th
3 pm EST
TICKETS HERE

In these times of continued social distancing when we may not be able to touch or meet or gather in person, how do we find creative ways to express and share our love and care for each other?
What ways of giving or receiving love (either individually or collectively) have touched you?

In what ways have you expressed your love as a citizen or witnessed love in social action in your community, your country or around the world?

*What is a Playback LoveGram?

A Playback LoveGram gives audience members the opportunity to share a story about and for someone they love, sometimes speaking directly to them, as we record (now courtesy of Zoom) both the story and the Playback enactment. True Story Theater will provide Tellers with an edited video clip to send to their loved one as a gift from the heart. A very unique gift to give!

For each Playback LoveGram show, we reserve 3 spaces for people who register in advance for a special ticket to share their Playback LoveGram stories. Other audience members register at the regular price and share whatever stories they like on the chosen theme for the performance.

Performance Tickets:
General Admission: $5 – $25 ($15-general, $5+pay-what-you-can, $25 pay-it-forward)
Playback LoveGram Reservation: $25-$75+ (includes ticket and production of your LoveGram video)

Reserve your Ticket on Eventbrite

Testimonials:

Comments from audience members who shared stories and witnessed LoveGrams in the making:

“I wanted it to be a unique memento of our life-long history. This keepsake will be one of many tokens of my love that I gift to her.”

“Sometimes we keep our love hidden, or unsaid. It’s such a risk to show our hearts, and such a gift when we do.”

“Deeply beautiful and moving stories… I am very grateful to have witnessed them.”

What happens in a True Story Theater performance?  Our events bring together the delight of improvisation with the riveting vulnerability of people sharing their personal truth.

The show’s emcee (called “the conductor”) facilitates brief, spontaneous conversations with volunteers from the audience who share their own feelings and experiences related to the show’s theme.  After each conversation, the actors and musician immediately embody the key feelings and actions they heard, using movement, music, dialogue, and superb listening. All of it is improvised on the spot. During the course of a 75 minute show, True Story enacts about 6-8 stories.

From this simple interaction, audience members laugh, cry, get insights about their lives, and feel an expanded sense of community. You can share a moment from your life and see it performed, or just come to watch.

What are True Story Theater’s classes like?  We will teach you the basic of Playback Theatre, which can hone your listening skills for everyday life.  All are welcome.  Classes are supportive, informal, intimate, and fun, an enriching experience for both newcomers and experienced actors.
