Stories of Love Beyond Boundaries (including LoveGrams)

February 9, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Love Beyond Boundaries
including Playback LoveGrams*

Tuesday, February 9th, 7:00-8:30 PM ET (on zoom!)

GET TICKETS

In the dreary depth of winter, fill your heart with fresh inspiration as we explore together the provocative theme of love beyond boundaries.

Have you ever loved people across significant boundaries:  physical distance, culture, religion, race, nationality, politics, generation, or other profound differences?  What has supported your connection and what has gotten in the way?

How about your love for this country, or for the earth, or for humanity as a whole?  Are there boundaries you cross in order to act on these loves?

True Story members will invite responses to these questions from audience volunteers and instantly reflect back the emotional essence of what is shared, through movement, music, metaphor and dialogue.

*What is a Playback LoveGram?

As we near Valentine’s day, are you looking for a special way to express your love?  Consider giving a surprising, unique and moving gift:  a Playback LoveGram.   You will speak about how you love this person (or people).  We will creatively enact what you share, record it, and give you an edited clip to send to your loved one(s) as a gift from your heart.

If you would like a Playback LoveGram, be sure to register and request one ASAP–we record at most 3 LoveGrams pers show.  Otherwise, simply register at the regular price and share whatever you like on our theme of Love Beyond Boundaries.

What happens in a True Story Theater performance?  Our events bring together the delight of improvisation with the riveting vulnerability of people sharing their personal truth.

The show’s emcee (called “the conductor”) facilitates brief, spontaneous conversations with volunteers from the audience who share their own feelings and experiences related to the show’s theme.  After each conversation, the actors and musician immediately embody the key feelings and actions they heard, using movement, music, dialogue, and superb listening. All of it is improvised on the spot. During the course of a 75 minute show, True Story enacts about 6-8 stories.

From this simple interaction, audience members laugh, cry, get insights about their lives, and feel an expanded sense of community. You can share a moment from your life and see it performed, or just come to watch.

What are True Story Theater’s classes like?  We will teach you the basic of Playback Theatre, which can hone your listening skills for everyday life.  All are welcome.  Classes are supportive, informal, intimate, and fun, an enriching experience for both newcomers and experienced actors.
