Women Explore Series “Democracy in Crisis” invites you to a unique conversation through theater about “How would animals and plants vote?”

Learn more about the Women Explore series here: www.womenexplore.org
Please register in advance to get the Zoom link here

Do you often wonder what plants and animals are thinking about the current state of our planet? If they could vote in a democratic election, what would they want to see change? What is important to them to stay the same? In considering your own perspective, what service do you feel is necessary to plants and animals to protect their home on Earth and create a healthy life for their species now and long-term beyond our generation? Join this virtual performance, hear from others, share your perspective, and watch True Story actors play back your story live.

Learn more about the Women Explore event series – a popular and stimulating lecture forum this fall entitled DEMOCRACY IN CRISIS! Ten individual lectures with lots of information helpful to your preparation for the November presidential election.

After you have registered, Zoom will email you a personal link that you will click to join the Sept. 17th performance with True Story Theater, as well as any of the other meetings in the series, if you are interested.

The event is free, and donations to Women Explore are welcome!

The suggested donation is $15 per session, $5 for students, their dependents or HSSPA members, or $130 for the whole series. All contributions, whatever the size, are gratefully received. What happens in a True Story Theater performance?  Our events bring together the delight of improvisation with the riveting vulnerability of people sharing their personal truth.

The show’s emcee (called “the conductor”) facilitates brief, spontaneous conversations with volunteers from the audience who share their own feelings and experiences related to the show’s theme.  After each conversation, the actors and musician immediately embody the key feelings and actions they heard, using movement, music, dialogue, and superb listening. All of it is improvised on the spot. During the course of a 75 minute show, True Story enacts about 6-8 stories.

From this simple interaction, audience members laugh, cry, get insights about their lives, and feel an expanded sense of community. You can share a moment from your life and see it performed, or just come to watch.

What are True Story Theater’s classes like?  We will teach you the basic of Playback Theatre, which can hone your listening skills for everyday life.  All are welcome.  Classes are supportive, informal, intimate, and fun, an enriching experience for both newcomers and experienced actors.
