From the Ordinary to the Extraordinary: Our Stories in the Time of Covid-19

June 25 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Thursday, June 25
7:00 – 8:30 PM EST

Please Register for 6/25 show here

We’ve got new stories to tell and to hear: stories that connect us in new and extraordinary ways to ourselves and to each other.

The Covid-19 pandemic continues to move our lives From the Ordinary to the Extraordinary—and back again. We’re navigating the uncertainty, challenges, and sometimes unexpected joys of staying at home; the courage and fear of working on the frontlines of the crisis; the heartbreak of losing loved ones; and the unexpected new digital connections, and newness in the familiarity of home. And we’re finding out how we can care for one another, how we can ask for help, and how we—individually and collectively, in-person and digitally—are finding new ways to sustain ourselves and each other, and even the planet.

Our trained team of actors will listen to and reflect your experiences—your challenges, hopes, surprises, gratitude, and dreams for the future. Audience members can volunteer to share stories, or can choose to simply watch.

The event will include community-building moments (with all participants on video) as well as short “break-outs” to speak in smaller groups.

This performance series is an initiative of the True Story Inc. Board of Directors to support the work of True Story Theater.

Donations to support True Story Theater welcome. (Please make a note of the date of the show)

What happens in a True Story Theater performance?  Our events bring together the delight of improvisation with the riveting vulnerability of people sharing their personal truth.

The show’s emcee (called “the conductor”) facilitates brief, spontaneous conversations with volunteers from the audience who share their own feelings and experiences related to the show’s theme.  After each conversation, the actors and musician immediately embody the key feelings and actions they heard, using movement, music, dialogue, and superb listening. All of it is improvised on the spot. During the course of a 75 minute show, True Story enacts about 6-8 stories.

From this simple interaction, audience members laugh, cry, get insights about their lives, and feel an expanded sense of community. You can share a moment from your life and see it performed, or just come to watch.

What are True Story Theater’s classes like?  We will teach you the basic of Playback Theatre, which can hone your listening skills for everyday life.  All are welcome.  Classes are supportive, informal, intimate, and fun, an enriching experience for both newcomers and experienced actors.
