About performances & classes

A Playback performance is more than just entertainment. Audience members laugh, cry, get insights about their life, and feel an expanded sense of community. You can share a moment from your life and see it performed, or just come to watch. We perform monthly in Arlington plus additional shows around town.

Our Playback classes are friendly, informal, and intimate, an enriching experience for both newcomers and experienced actors.

Support our 19th season of bringing theater of empathy to greater Boston.
Enjoy a house and garden gathering and fabulous collaborative funding
at the beautiful Arlington home of Elaine Shea.

Open to the first 50 people who purchase tickets. (Available soon!)

What to expect?
As you browse through the cozy house, appetizers, desserts, and drink in hand, you’ll learn about various performance series on social issues.
Partake in creative conversations, improv games, sing-back stories, and on-the-spot mini True Story performances.
Share with us your visions of bringing Playback to support a  favorite group or cause.

Pick out gift certificates to buy that were donated from local restaurants and services (all proceeds to support True Story).
Remember to bring your checkbook, cash, or credit card to join a circle of donors to help match our National Endowment for the Arts grant for “The Listening Project” and many of our other series on important themes.

True Story Theaterdoes  75-100 public and private performances and workshops a year. Our theater aims to honor untold stories from many under-represented and marginalized communities, including this year with people with disabilities, people in recovery from drug and alcohol abuse, veterans, and others. We have also had a number of performances on the invisible work of motherhood. In the past year, we have led Active Bystander Intervention workshops in partnership with several towns’ Human Rights Commissions and schools.

Can’t attend but would like to be part of our circle of donors? Wonderful! Make a donation here or contact Amber(at)TrueStoryTheater.org to make other arrangements.

Donations are tax deductible.
