We would love to see you at this fun and inspiring event. Get a glimpse into how True Story is serving our communities and how your support makes it possible.

Catch either one or both performances. Drop-ins welcome. Plus, join us for some community-building warm-up and dance breaks!

7:45 – 8:00pm  – Fundraiser Vision & Dance Break

9:00 – 9:15 pm – Visioning, Contribution & Closing – dance jam!

If you are able, please make a contribution today, at a level that works for you, and help True Story keep going during this time. We’ve lost over $10,000+ of expected income from canceled in-person events.  But we’ve quickly learned how to do our work online and are reaching isolated people who need the support and connection this work brings. We hope to raise at least $1000+ for this event–can you help?

Some of the shows in the works now are: for cancer survivors that are isolated, an event to share about the challenges of living with addictions and avenues for support, a series to partnering with senior centers to support elder wellness, and more! Your support will help cover expenses that our partners wouldn’t be able to afford.

Thank you for your time and your support.  We appreciate you!

Amber Espar, Director

p.s. If you can’t attend but would like to be part of our circle of donors, please make a donation here or contact Amber Espar(at)TrueStoryTheater.org to make other arrangements, including helping to organize or sponsor a series of True Story performances.

What happens in a True Story Theater performance?  Our events bring together the delight of improvisation with the courageous vulnerability of people sharing their personal truth.

The show’s emcee (called “the conductor”) facilitates brief, spontaneous conversations with volunteers from the audience who share their own feelings and experiences related to the show’s theme.  After each conversation, the actors and musician immediately embody the key feelings and actions they heard, using movement, music, dialogue, and superb listening. All of it is improvised on the spot. During the course of a 75 minute show, True Story enacts about 6-8 stories.

From this simple interaction, audience members feel validated, laugh, cry, get insights about their lives, and feel an expanded sense of community. You can share a moment from your life and see it performed, or just come to watch.

What are True Story Theater’s classes like?  We will teach you the basics of Playback Theatre, which can hone your listening skills for everyday life.  All are welcome.  Classes are supportive, informal, intimate, and fun, an enriching experience for both newcomers and experienced actors.
